Title

Design and Simulation of Quadratic DC-DC Boost Converter (QBC) with Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) for Automotive Applications

Abstract

Power converters are critical elements in contemporary electronics, serving a central role in applications from renewable energy systems to electric vehicles and industrial automation. Optimizing performance, such as high efficiency, low power losses, and thermal stability, is still a strong challenge because of the nonlinear and complex nature of power conversion processes. This work introduces the design, modeling, and simulation of a Quadratic DC-DC Boost Converter (QBC) for automotive use, specifically electric and hybrid electric vehicles. The QBC topology is chosen for its higher voltage gain and efficiency compared to traditional boost converters, due to an added LC network allowing quadratic voltage conversion with lower component stress and switching loss. The converter is modeled mathematically and developed with state-space and small-signal methods for the assessment of dynamic performance in continuous conduction mode (CCM). Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) is used, and simulations are conducted in MATLAB/Simulink. The conclusions validate the QBC with intelligent control as an effective solution for efficient, high-reliability, and high-gain power conversion in future-generation automotive powertrains.
