Title

The Linguistic Edge: An In-Depth Exploration of English Proficiency as a Determinant of Employability in India

Abstract

This article explains the importance and the role of English proficiency in enhancing the opportunities where lacks of students lacking now a days in India. Despite increasing awareness about having effective communication skills in the field of engineering, thousands of graduates are still having low confidence levels and poor command over the English language reducing their employability. Although various studies have stressed the importance of improving employability skills, the problem persists. This study explores real-life classroom situations to understand why so many students continue to fall short in communication, particularly while facing campus placements in their third year. The frightening discovery is that even the third-year students feel inadequate and lack self-confidence to carry out interviews. Outcomes also reveal a gap between traditional pedagogy practice and student expectations. Most students felt there was a need for increased interactive and participative classes to enhance their language competency. The survey results unequivocally reflect a gap between teaching methods and student confidence levels, emphasizing the imperative for proper, student-oriented training programs in English for engineering undergraduate students.
