Traffic congestion in urban areas presents significant challenges, particularly for emergency vehicles such as ambulances, which require swift and unobstructed passage to save lives. This paper proposes an intelligent traffic control system based on ambulance detection to resolve this issue. Using YOLOv8 deep learning algorithm, the system can identify ambulances in real-time using surveillance cameras positioned at intersections and along major routes. Upon detection, the system dynamically adjusts traffic signals to create a clear path for the ambulance. By interfacing the detection results with the microcontroller ESP8266, the traffic signals are adjusted. The implementation of an intelligent traffic control system based on ambulance detection presents a promising solution to the critical issue of emergency vehicle delays in urban environments.
