Abstract
Background: Breast cancer significantly impacts patients' quality of life (QoL), influenced by demographic and clinical factors. This study examines the distribution of QoL among breast cancer patients and its association with various demographic and clinical variables.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 60 breast cancer patients. Data on demographic variables (age, education, marital status, income, religion, residence, dietary habits) and clinical variables (history of benign disease, chest X-ray history, physical activity, weight loss, breastfeeding duration, disease stage) were collected. Frequency and percentage distributions were analyzed, and associations with QoL were assessed using appropriate statistical tests (p < 0.05 considered significant)
Result: This study examined the quality of life (QoL) among breast cancer patients and its association with demographic and clinical factors. A cross-sectional analysis of 60 patients revealed that the majority were middle-aged (51–60 years), rural-dwelling (83.3%), Hindu (95%), married (98.3%), and from low-income households (76.7%). Clinically, most had a history of benign disease (98.3%), engaged in physical activity during illness (90%), and were diagnosed at early cancer stages (65%). Overall, 75% reported good QoL, while 18.3% and 6.7% described average and poor QoL, respectively. Significant demographic predictors of better QoL included being a housewife, lower income, Hindu religion, and rural residence. Among clinical variables, only physical activity during illness showed a significant positive correlation with QoL. The findings suggest that sociocultural and behavioral factors play a key role in shaping QoL outcomes for breast cancer patients, underscoring the need for tailored supportive care strategies.
Conclusion: Most breast cancer patients reported good QoL, influenced by sociocultural factors (rural living, lower income, housewife status) and health behaviors (physical activity during illness). Targeted interventions should consider these factors to enhance QoL in this population.
