Title

A Study on Tourism Products and Tourist Satisfaction in comparison between Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru Districts

Abstract

Tourism comprises activities of people traveling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business social, recreational, and knowledge-seeking purposes. The present research focused on studying tourist products and tourist satisfaction in Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru Districts. The variables such as unique landscape. mountains tourism. lakes and beaches. wildlife sanctuary. eco-tourism. backwater tourism. homestay tourism. Waterfalls tourism. theme parks. Event-based tourism. pilgrimage tourism. symbiotic tourism products (natural and man-made products). medical tourism and cultural & historical tourism were used as study indicators to predict tourist satisfaction. The present research was conducted based on the responses of 602 tourists from Shivamigga district and 553 respondents including domestic and foreign tourists visiting Chikkamagaluru District were selected as a sample study the total samples were 1155. A convenient sampling method was followed for the study. A structured questionnaire was used for collecting the data from the respondents. The T-test and regression analysis were used as statistical tools. The results show that there is a significant difference has been found in tourist’s satisfaction towards overall tourism products in both districts as the group statistics show the Shivamogga District than the Chikkamagaluru District, which means that, the majority of the tourists are satisfied with the tourism products offered by Shivamogga districts. The regression analysis revealed that unique landscape, lakes and beaches, wildlife sanctuary, eco-tourism, backwater tourism, waterfalls- tourism, event-based tourism, pilgrimage tourism, symbiotic tourism products (natural and man-made products), and mountains tourism are the tourism products that have a significant influence on tourist’s satisfaction in both the districts.
