Plastic mulch is increasingly used in Indian agriculture for moisture retention and weed suppression. However, its ecological consequences, particularly regarding soil microbial communities, remain understudied. This research investigates the fungal pathogens associated with plastic mulch in agricultural fields of Dindori Tehsil, Nashik. A total of 30 rhizospheric soil samples were collected from mulched and non-mulched plots. Fungal isolates were purified using PDA medium and identified based on cultural and microscopic characteristics. Dominant pathogenic fungi included Fusarium oxysporum, Rhizoctonia solani, and Alternaria alternata. Significant variation (p < 0.05) in fungal load was observed between mulched and control sites, indicating an altered pathogen profile likely linked to microclimatic shifts induced by plastic cover. The study underscores the need for sustainable mulching alternatives that preserve soil health and microbial balance.
