Title

Numerical Investigation Approach And Practical Experimental Approach On A Supersonic Torch Igniter

Abstract

This experiment investigates the operation and effectiveness of a torch ignitor as a reliable ignition source in high- pressure combustion environments. They are widely used in aerospace propulsion systems due to their ability to generate a stable, high- energy flame capable of igniting main combustion chambers under varying flow and pressure conditions. The primary objective of the study is to analyze the performance characteristics of a laboratory scale torch ignitor, including ignition reliability, flame stability, and fuel- air mixing efficiency. A series of tests were conducted using gaseous butane and compressed air as fuel and oxidizer, respectively. This experiment supports the application of torch ignitors in demanding aerospace ignition systems and contributes to the optimization of their design for improved safety and performance.
