This project deals with static exciter which is a novel system of providing excitation for alternators. In this system the output of the alternator itself is utilized for excitation purposes and in addition automatic voltage regulation is accomplished. The development of excitation system is presented along with excitation system is presented along with excitation control scheme. This static exciter is designed for a 5KVA, 440V, 3ph, 50Hz alternator. The principle of the schemes, characteristic of the components used in the circuits and design are presented in this work. The experimental investigation on the performance of the Static exciter are given with those of conventional system of excitation for comparision.In concluding this study the feasibility of the scheme for practical implementation together with possibilities of further development and now trends in excitation system are indicated.
