Title

Non pharmacological Pain management through Agnikarma and Raktamokshan

Abstract

Pain is defined as any form of physical or mental discomfort resulting from illness, injury, or dysfunction. Even a mild sensation of pain can disrupt daily routines and lower the quality of life. Pain may present in various forms, such as the throbbing discomfort of a toothache, the spasmodic nature of colicky pain in renal calculi, or the muscular pain experienced in sprains, sports injuries, and joint disorders. In modern times, musculoskeletal and neuromuscular pains—including conditions like arthritis, sciatica, lumbar spondylosis, and migraine—are increasingly common. Based on its duration, pain is classified into acute (short-term) and chronic (long-standing) types. The conventional response to pain often involves the use of analgesics, which, when used frequently, can suppress the body's natural defense mechanisms and potentially lead to dependency or side effects. According to Ayurveda, the root cause of most types of pain lies in the vitiation of Vata Dosha. When Vata is brought back to its balanced state, the pain naturally subsides. A common misconception exists that Ayurvedic treatments are only effective for chronic conditions and act slowly. However, this belief overlooks the powerful and immediate relief that Ayurvedic therapies can offer—even in acute pain—through properly selected medications and treatments aimed at balancing the doshas and restoring harmony in the body.
