Title

EXPERIMENTAL ANALYSIS AND PERFORMANCE TEST ON SINGLE CYLINDER DIESEL ENGINE BY USING PUNNAI BIODIESEL AND THEIR BLENDS WITH ISO BUTANOL AS AN ADDITIVE

Abstract

In the last 10 years, biodiesel instead of diesel has been progressively used as a clean, sustainable and synthetic fuel for compression ignition engines to research its impact on engine efficiency and emissions. But so far, these studies have scarcely been checked to encourage awareness and popularization of biodiesel. In this work, studies on the efficiency and emissions of biodiesel engines, published in highly ranked scientific index journals, were preferentially quoted from those studies. The use of biodiesel with additives results in a significant decrease in emissions of PM, HC and CO, followed by an imperceptible loss of power, an increase in fuel consumption and an increase in NOx emissions for traditional diesel engines with no or less modifications. And it favors reducing the deposition of carbon and wear of key engine components. Blends of biodiesel with a limited content instead of petroleum diesel can also assist in managing air pollution without losing fuel efficiency and the economy drastically. For the experiment, blends such as CIME10, CIME20, CIME30, CIME100 are taken from these CIME20 blends delivering good results and isobutene is added as a fuel additive with a concentration of 10 percent, 15 percent for this blend. Performance has also been enhanced and emissions have been reduced by using CIME20 with Is butanol.
