Title

STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY AND VIBRATIONAL BEHAVIOR OF CAMSHAFT FOR ALTERNATIVE MATERIALS

Abstract

A camshaft is a rotating cylindrical shaft used to regulate the injection of vaporized fuel in an internal combustion engine. This study focuses on the design and performance evaluation of a camshaft using SolidWorks 2024 (SW 2024) and finite element analysis tools. The camshaft is modeled in SW 2024, structural and modal analyses are conducted in ANSYS to compare the mechanical behaviour of three different materials: Grey Cast Iron, Mild Steel Grade EN08, and Aluminum Alloy. The static structural analysis investigates stress distribution, deformation, and safety factors under simulated operational loads. Modal analysis is carried out to determine the natural frequencies and mode shapes, which are critical for understanding the vibrational characteristics of the camshaft.
