Title

Studies on the Impact of Athropogenic Activities on the Ecological Behaviour of Avifauna in Nehru Talai Wetland Habitat (Bhilwara, Rajasthan)

Abstract

The Nehru Talai Wetland, located in Bhilwara, Rajasthan, is a critical freshwater habitat supporting a rich diversity of avifauna, including both resident and migratory bird species. This study investigates the impact of anthropogenic activities on the ecological behaviour of avifauna in this wetland ecosystem. Over recent decades, human-induced disturbances such as urban expansion, waste dumping, water extraction, agricultural runoff, and recreational encroachments have significantly altered the wetland's ecological balance. The research was conducted through systematic bird counts, behavioural observations, and analysis of habitat variables over a period of twelve months. Findings reveal a marked decline in bird diversity and abundance during peak human activity seasons, with sensitive species either avoiding or altering their activity patterns in disturbed zones. Notable behavioural changes include reduced foraging time, increased alertness, altered nesting sites, and disrupted migratory stopovers. Water quality assessments further confirm deterioration due to chemical pollutants and organic waste, directly influencing aquatic vegetation and food availability essential for birds. The study emphasizes the role of wetland integrity in sustaining avian ecological functions and highlights that unregulated anthropogenic activities threaten not only species diversity but also the overall ecological resilience of the habitat. It calls for immediate conservation interventions such as controlled human access, habitat restoration, community awareness, and continuous ecological monitoring. The research underscores the need for integrating avifaunal behavioural studies in wetland management policies to ensure sustainable coexistence of biodiversity and human development in urban-proximate wetland ecosystems like Nehru Talai.
