Title

AN EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS OF CONSUMER ATTITUDES IN ORGANIC FOOD PURCHASING WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO COIMBATORE CITY

Abstract

The growing awareness of health and environmental concerns has significantly influenced consumer behavior, particularly in the food industry. This study aims to conduct an empirical analysis of consumer attitudes toward organic food purchasing, with a special focus on Coimbatore City. The research explores key factors such as health consciousness, environmental awareness, perceived quality, price sensitivity, and trust in organic labeling that influence consumer decisions. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from a sample of 200 respondents within Coimbatore. Statistical tools including factor analysis and regression analysis were employed to interpret the data. The findings reveal that health benefits and trust in certification labels are the most significant motivators for organic food purchases, while high price and limited availability act as major deterrents. The study provides valuable insights for marketers, retailers, and policymakers aiming to promote organic food consumption in urban markets. It also highlights the need for increased awareness and infrastructure support to sustain the growth of the organic food sector in Coimbatore.
