The creative processes involved in 2D animation, especially during the pre-production phase, are critical for shaping ideas and laying the foundation for the final product. This stage involves tasks such as concept generation, scriptwriting, storyboarding, and character design, which traditionally require significant time and artistic effort. The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into these workflows has opened new avenues for increasing efficiency and expanding creative possibilities. AI tools are now being utilized to support various aspects of pre-production by automating routine tasks and providing fresh ideas, thereby assisting artists in accelerating their work. This paper explores how AI contributes to time-saving and ideation during 2D animation pre-production, while emphasizing the essential role of human artists in reviewing, refining, and personalizing AI-generated content. Through an analysis of relevant tools and practical examples, the study evaluates AI’s impact on creative processes, its limitations, and its potential for collaboration in animation workflows.
