Michael Madhusudan Dutta emerged during the British rule. He turned to literature to expose the shame of Subjugation. He started Writing in Bengali on the advise of his friend. He composed the Meghnad Badh epic, inspired by a sense of patriotism. In his Meghnadbadh Kabya, the favourite hero is Meghnad. He was so vocal about his patriotism that he did not hesitate to break the existing norms of society and religion. His writings reflect the themes of subjugation and the weaknesses of national life. He expressed deep regret for the subjugation and was hopeful of regaining the last glory.
