Abstract Breast cancer remains one of the most prevalent malignancies affecting women globally, accounting for significant morbidity and mortality. Early detection through awareness and regular screening, including Breast Self-Examination (BSE), plays a pivotal role in reducing disease burden. This review article highlights the epidemiology, risk factors, clinical features, diagnostic modalities, and prevention strategies of breast cancer, with special emphasis on the importance and correct technique of BSE. Evidence from various studies underscores the value of BSE as a low-cost, non-invasive method that can promote early detection, especially in resource-limited settings.
