Title

Cinematic Innovation in the Streaming Age: VFX, Animation, and Audience Response in Indian OTT Series

Authors

Abstract

The rapid rise of Indian Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms has redefined storytelling by integrating advanced Visual Effects (VFX) and animation as central cinematic tools rather than peripheral enhancements. This study, titled “Cinematic Innovation in the Streaming Age: VFX, Animation, and Audience Response in Indian OTT Series,” explores how emerging technologies reshape narrative craft, elevate visual storytelling, and influence audience perception in the digital entertainment ecosystem. Drawing on case studies of prominent Indian web series, the research examines the creative deployment of VFX and animation in constructing immersive worlds, enhancing genre aesthetics, and enabling cultural hybridity in narratives. Through content analysis and audience reception studies, the paper highlights how these technologies foster deeper emotional engagement, expand creative experimentation, and position Indian OTT productions on par with global streaming standards. Furthermore, it addresses the challenges of balancing spectacle with substance, budgetary constraints, and evolving viewer expectations. The findings suggest that VFX and animation in Indian OTT content are not merely technical add-ons but transformative forces that redefine cinematic imagination and shape the future of digital storytelling. This paper contributes to discussions on media innovation, cultural production, and technology-driven viewer engagement in India’s rapidly evolving streaming landscape.
