Title

Mediating effects of workplace ethics on the relationship between workforce diversity and organizational performance in Telangana pharmaceutical industry

Abstract

Workforce diversity has become a critical factor in shaping organizational performance, particularly in dynamic industries such as pharmaceuticals. This study examines the impact of workforce diversity on organizational performance, with workplace ethics acting as a mediating variable, within the context of the pharmaceutical industry in Telangana, India. The primary objective of this study was to find the effect of workforce diversity on performance of the pharmaceutical companies located in Hyderabad, Telangana. The study also sought to determine the impact of such as gender, ethnicity and educational background diversity on employees performance. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected from employees and managers across various pharmaceutical firms are the targeted respondents. A convenient random sampling method was used to draw samples from local, national and multinational pharmaceuticalindustries located in and around Hyderabad, and data was collected through questionnaire from the sample of 500 respondents. The findings reveal that workforce diversity significantly enhances employee and organizational performance, particularly when supported by strong workplace ethics. Workplace ethics was found to mediate the relationship between diversity and performance, suggesting that ethical practices amplify the positive effects of a diverse workforce. Gender diversity and age diversity are positively associated with the performance of the employees in pharma companies. Local firms may have less diversity in their workforce, however, they may still exhibit diversity in terms of gender, age and educational backgrounds and the performance is often measured by local market share. National companies tend to have a more diverse workforce, with employees from different cultures and linguistic backgrounds. The multinational companies have highly diverse workforces, with employees from different cultures and professional backgrounds. These results contribute to the growing body of literature on diversity management and organizational ethics, providing empirical evidence from a rapidly developing industrial region. Understanding these differences is crucial for policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers aiming to improve organizational performance and workplace ethics across the pharmaceutical sector.
