Kyllinga triceps rottb is a member of the Cyperaceae family and is one of the world's most widely distributed medicinal herbs. Kyllinga triceps Rottb., an emerging perennial grass-like plant, has garnered attention in ethnomedicine due to its diverse phytochemical constituents and potential health benefits. This review explores the phytochemical profile and traditional medicinal properties of Kyllinga triceps, suggesting its potential for therapeutic applications. Phytochemical profile of Kyllinga triceps species indicated the presence of essential phytochemicals like flavonoids, glycosides, alkaloids, phenolics, essential oils, carbohydrates, terpenoids, and tannins, the basis of its valuable therapeutic properties. The pharmacological activities exhibited by Kyllinga triceps rottb are antidiabetic, antimicrobial, wound healing properties, diuretic properties, digestive health, anti inflammatory, antioxidant and hepatoprotective which are attributed to the presence of valuable bioactive phytoconstituents. This review also explores the ethnopharmacological significance of Kyllinga triceps, examining its traditional uses, phytochemical properties, pharmacological activities, and potential applicability in modern medicine. Through a comparative analysis of indigenous knowledge and contemporary scientific research, this study aims to contribute to the understanding of Kyllinga triceps as a valuable resource in the field of ethnopharmacology.
