Title

Empowering Minds: The Role of Transformational Leadership in Enhancing Staff Performance in Select Engineering Colleges of Andhra Pradesh

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of transformational leadership (TL) on employee performance (EP) in autonomous engineering colleges situated in Krishna and NTR districts of Andhra Pradesh. Using the dimensions of TL—idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration—this research examines how leadership behaviours foster task and contextual performance. Work engagement (WE) and affective organizational commitment (AOC) are tested as mediators, while leader–member exchange (LMX) and perceived organizational support (POS) act as moderators. Data were collected from faculty and administrative staff through structured questionnaires and analysed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modelling (SEM). The findings highlight the significant role of TL in improving EP, mediated by engagement and commitment. The study contributes to higher education leadership research in India and offers practical recommendations for leadership development, HR practices, and institutional policy-making.
