Title

Agile Methodologies and Project Performance of I&M Bank Rwanda

Abstract

This study examined the influence of adopting Agile methodologies on project performance in Rwanda’s banking sector, focusing on I&M Bank Rwanda. The research analyzed how Iterative Planning, Cross-functional teams, and continuous feedback loops affect project performance. Grounded in triple constraints theory, organizational adaptation theory, and situational Theory, the study used a mixed-methods approach involving structured questionnaires and interviews. A census method was applied to a target population of 50 key individuals. Quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS for descriptive and inferential statistics, while qualitative data from interviews were analyzed thematically using NVivo. Results revealed strong positive correlations between all Agile practices and project performance, with Cross-functional Teams exhibiting the highest correlation and impact. Regression analysis confirmed that the independent variables significantly influence project outcomes, accounting for 83% of the variation in performance. The ANOVA test validated the model’s statistical significance. These findings highlight the effectiveness of Agile methodologies in improving adaptability, responsiveness, and efficiency in project management. The study recommends that I&M Bank Rwanda and similar institutions institutionalize Agile practices to enhance performance. Policymakers should also support Agile adoption to foster innovation and competitiveness in the financial sector. Further research is encouraged to explore Agile's long-term impacts across diverse financial institutions
