Title

Ode on a Grecian urn – The Close relationship between Art, Beauty and Truth

Abstract

The main focus of the paper is to highlight the themes of the poem art, beauty, truth and nature. The poem examines the close relationship between art, beauty and truth. For the speaker, it is through beauty that humankind comes closest to truth and throughout that human beings can attain this beauty though it remains a bitter sweet achievement. John Keats’s "Ode on a Grecian Urn" is one of the finest examples of Romantic poetry, showcasing the genre’s preoccupation with beauty, nature, emotion, and the passage of time. Through the use of vivid imagery and complex symbolism, Keats explores the contrast between fleeting human experience and the permanence of art. This paper analyzes how Keats utilizes these literary devices to reflect the central themes of the Romantic movement- particularly the tension between transience and eternity, the power of art, and the immortal nature of beauty. By examining the urn’s symbolic meaning and Keats's treatment of nature, this study highlights how the poem encapsulates Romantic ideals while delving into deep philosophical reflection on life, death, and the essence of art.
