Title

Marvel Synthesized Symmetrical and Unsymmetrical Benzoin by Condensing Benzaldehyde Molecules in Presence of Sodium Cyanide in an Alcoholic Medium

Abstract

4- Methoxybenzoin 1 and 21- chloro-3,4- dimethoxy-Benzoin were successfully synthesized by making the use of potassium cyanide. As benzoin molecule is a trifunctional molecule so it can be used as a starting molecule in the synthesis of various organic reactions, the products which were isolated are useful to the human beings. Benzoin molecule contains reactive carbonyl and alcoholic groups along with phenyl moiety. One of the most important reactions of carbonyl group with various amino molecules produces oximes, hydrazones and semicarbazones i.e. when aldehydes or ketones were reacted with hydroxyl amine to form various hydrazines and semicarbazides respectively. These can be considered as analogs of aldehydes and ketones.
