Abstract This paper evaluates the impact of the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) revised Securitisation of Standard Assets Framework (Master Directions, Sept 24, 2021) on Indian banks, NBFCs and HFCs between 2020 and 2025. We describe the framework (structure, Minimum Risk Retention, minimum holding period, due diligence, credit enhancement and disclosure requirements), identify operational challenges facing mid-sized originators, and assess consequences for balance-sheet management, liquidity, investor confidence and regulatory compliance. We also discuss technological remedies—especially AI-based systems—to address data, monitoring and predictive-risk needs and propose policy and operational recommendations.
