Numbers and letters are the two eyes of man. The mathematical notes and mathematical texts found in the ancient Tamil literature show that the ancient Tamils had advanced knowledge in the field of mathematics. Many of the legendary books on the stele were either destroyed by the ignorance of the people or were reduced to ashes and set on fire. Only a few books, including Kari Nayanar Accountant, Surya Bhupen Accountant, Asthana Kolakalam, Ganitha Deepikai and Ganitha Divakaram, have been brought into print. There are many other books on mathematics. Among the available books, only two books, Accountancy and Asthana Golakalam, are compared and their specialities are examined.
