Title

"Spectroscopic Analysis of the Luminescent Behavior of Nd Doped Lithium Borate Glasses: Towards Near Infrared Laser Applications "

Abstract

Neodymium doped lithium borate (LB) glasses of composition (55−x) mol% B2O3 + 25 mol% LiF + 10 mol% MgF2 + 10 mol% ZnO with x=0.1,0.5,1.0,1.5,2.0 mol% Nd₂O₃, were synthesized via the melt quenching method. The structural properties of the glasses were probed using X ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy. Extensive spectroscopic characterization was carried out, including optical absorption, photoluminescence, decay kinetics, and Judd–Ofelt (J–O) modeling. From absorption spectra, both experimental (fexp) and theoretical (fcal) oscillator strengths were extracted. These were used within the Judd–Ofelt framework to derive the intensity parameters Ω2, Ω4, and Ω6. Employing these J–O parameters together with the photoluminescence data, radiative transition probabilities (AR), experimental branching ratios (βexp ), and stimulated emission cross sections (σe ) were calculated. Additionally, decay kinetics of the 4I₉/₂ level were analyzed to determine the experimental lifetimes (τₑₓₚ) for each glass composition, providing insights into luminescence efficiency. Finally, these results were discussed in the context of existing literature and evaluated for their potential in near infrared laser applications.

Key Words
