Digital transformation offers significant potential for advancing sustainable development but also presents considerable challenges. This study explores the primary barriers organizations encounter when integrating digital technologies with sustainability agendas. Key obstacles include the absence of cohesive strategies, limited data management capacity, shortages in digital and sustainability expertise, organizational inertia, ethical issues related to privacy and bias, high capital requirements, and difficulties in assessing sustainability outcomes. Through industry case studies, the paper develops a framework to align digital initiatives with sustainability goals. It also offers policy and managerial recommendations while highlighting the need for further research to create sector-specific pathways toward digitally enabled sustainability.
