Title

Utilization of ICTs by Teachers in Teaching Agriculture at Senior Secondary Schools in Eswatini

Abstract

In the exploration of the utilization of ICTs by teachers in the teaching of agriculture in senior secondary schools in Eswatini, findings revealed that teachers use mobile phones, computers, internet, radio, television, projector, wifi, digital camers, and printers. The teachers use these ICTs for processing (lesson preparation), exchanging (sharing information with learners and colleagues), and managing information (storage of information safely for futrure use). The teachers also revealed that the ICTs eased their daily activities in the teaching of agriculture even though there were factors that hindered their utilization. The factors that were mentioned were: poor network coverage; inaffordability of smart phones to learners; shortage of computers in schools; and education and school policies not permiting the full utilization of ICTs. The teachers suggested some strategies that can enhance the utilization of ICTs in the teaching of agriculture. These factors were: upgrading of education and school policies to accommodate and emphasize the use of ICTs; government to improve the infrastructure such as network lines; lastly, parents to encourage and support their children in the use of ITCs for learning.
