Abstract

Fairs and Culture occupy an important place in people's life. Also, fairs and culture support and expand each others. A nation's identity established by its culture, which reflects their way of life and traditions. Culture organises society and helps to foster co-operation among its members. Socially accepted beliefs as part of culture are passed down from generation to generation. Ideas of right and wrong can also be considered an integral part of culture. Music, dance, literature, painting, and various types of knowledge and skills are important part of the culture. The fair is often involved in religious festivals and builds harmony and harmony among people of different religions. It encourages the combination of social union and culture. The fair has become a center for the exchange of local products as well as local handicrafts and agricultural goods. This fair is not only important in the economic sphere but also helps in preserving local culture and heritage. The worship and rituals of deities have a long tradition in the Islampur Subdivision of Uttar Dinajpur District. The worship of deities in Islampur Subdivision preserves the culture heritage of the people. Many fairs have originated around these deities, which Still exist today, and these fairs have been considered a source of celebration for generations. These fairs protect traditions even amid the changes of the times. Some famous fairs established in this subdivision reflect the history of the British period. Such as- Daluta fair, Jahora fair, pir fair of Yusufganj, Laxmi fair of Mohisasur, Monosa fair of Mal Khunda, Kali fair of Altapur, and Siruya fair of Karandighi etc.
