Title

Exploring the Relationship Between Mamsa Sara Purusha and Kapha prakriti in the Context of Ashyra Ashrayi Bhava: An Ayurvedic Perspective”

Abstract

Ayurveda conceptualizes human health as a harmonious equilibrium of Dosha, Dhatu, and Mala, governed by the individual’s inherent constitution (Prakṛti). Among the parameters determining vitality, Dhatu Saratava—the qualitative excellence of tissues—plays a vital diagnostic and prognostic role. Within this spectrum, Mamsa Sara Purusha represents the epitome of physical endurance, structural integrity, and emotional stability. This paper critically reviews classical and contemporary sources to explore why Kapha Prakṛti individuals are predominantly Mamsa Sara, through the framework of Ashraya–Ashrayi Bhava—the mutual interdependence between Dosha (functional principle) and Dhatu (structural component). Clinical and research perspectives further validate the classical proposition that Kapha’s inherent Snigdha, Guru, and Sthira attributes support optimal muscle nourishment, making Mamsa Saratava both a physical and psychological marker of Kapha predominance. Kapha prakṛti individuals, due to the predominance of snigdhata and sthira guṇa, possess compact and well-developed musculature, reflecting uttama Mamsa Dhatu Sarata (C.Vi.8/105; A.H. Sū.3/90). This is explained through the Ashraya–Ashrayi- Bhava between Kapha doṣa and Mamsa Dhatu, both sharing Pṛthvi dominance and guru, snigdha, and sthira qualities. Pitta prakṛti individuals exhibit mridu and shithila mamsa due to dravatva (C.Vi.8/97; A.H. Sū.3/90), while Vata prakṛti persons, with Ruksha and laghu guṇa, have lean and less-nourished muscle tissue (A.H. Sū.3/90)
