Title

Optimization of Condition for Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles using Leaf Extract of Citrullus Colocynthis

Abstract

In the present study, synthesis and characterization of environment friendly silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Citrullus colocynthis (Bitter Apple) leaf extract is investigated. Due to easy availability, non toxic and devoid of use of hazardous chemical substances metallic nanoparticles synthesis using green approach is increasing demand in various fields such as electronics, water purification, catalysis, chemistry and pharmaceuticals etc. Characterization of synthesized silver nanoparticles is done using UV spectroscopy, FT-IR, Zeta potential and TEM. The color shift from colorless to colored observed immediately after mixing plant leaves extract to aqueous solution of silver nitrate indicates reducing, capping and stabilizing nature of leaf extract. The primary shape, morphology and size distribution of Citrullus colocynthis leaf extract medited synthesized AgNPs were confirm by Transmission electron microscopy analysis. Synthesized nanoparticles were found to be spherical in shape having range 10-35 nm. FT-IR spectra results in the range 1000-4000 cm-1 suggests the surface functionalization of synthesized silver nanoprticles with free and bound amide group along with polyphenols having aromatic ring.
