Title

SLA 3D Printed Gyroid Lattice Structure and Its Sandwich Panel Application

Abstract

This study presents the fabrication and application of a resin based Gyroid lattice structure within a sandwich panel configuration. The Gyroid lattice was fabricated using the Stereolithography three-dimensional (3D) additive manufacturing method, chosen for its ability to reproduce intricate geometries. A rectangular prism in dimensions 20x60x200mm was digitally modelled and fabricated using a Stereolithography 3D printer. Following the fabrication, epoxy resin was applied to both the top and bottom surfaces of the printed part, over which woven glass fibre cloths were laminated under rolling pressure to ensure uniform resin impregnation. The principal objective of this work is to physically realize a mathematical surface that is exceptionally challenging to manufacture through conventional engineering techniques. The resulting model not only serves as a demonstrative educational work for visualizing complex geometrical surfaces but also exhibits potential structural benefits when integrated into sandwich panels. The advancement of affordable desktop Stereolithography 3D printers capable of achieving layer thicknesses as fine as 10 µm has significantly enhanced the precision and surface quality of such mathematical models.
