Title

"MIND AS THE KEY TO CURE: THE CENTRAL ROLE OF MENTAL STATES IN HOMEOPATHIC PRACTICE"

Abstract

In Homeopathy, the mind serves a primary role in disease understanding and treatment, due to its intimate relation to the body, as emphasized by Hahnemann in the Organon of Medicine.⁴ Mental and emotional disorders often manifest as somatic symptoms, and conversely, physical diseases may influence the mind and emotions.⁷ According to classical masters like Kent and Allen, the mental state of the patient provides the most characteristic indications for remedy selection, especially when emotional disturbances such as depression, irritability, mania, or anxiety dominate the clinical picture.¹ ³ Boericke highlighted that mental and emotional patterns such as grief, obsession, and emotional distress often determine the choice of a simillimum more precisely than physical symptoms.² Homoeopathy thus views the patient as a whole, considering thought processes, emotional responses, and behavioural tendencies rather than focusing merely on somatic pathology.⁵ ⁶ With this principle of individualisation, remedies aim to stimulate the vital force and restore dynamic equilibrium instead of suppressing symptoms.⁴ ⁷ Empirical evidence and clinical case reports further substantiate that individualised homoeopathic treatment can effectively ameliorate social anxiety, generalised anxiety, depression, intellectual and behavioural disorders, and emotional distress accompanying chronic physical disease.⁸ ⁹ ⁹Standardized psychometric tools such as the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale and Severity Measure for Social Anxiety Disorder are commonly utilised to evaluate treatment outcomes.⁹ Ultimately, the holistic approach of Homoeopathy underscores that caring for the mental and emotional planes is central to achieving lasting health, reaffirming the mind-body unity that serves as the cornerstone of this system of medicine.⁴ ⁵ ⁷
