The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector plays a pivotal role in driving India’s economic growth by fostering entrepreneurship, generating employment, promoting regional development, and reducing rural-to-urban migration. This article provides an analytical overview of the growth story of MSMEs in India, highlighting their accomplishments and the barriers they face. It examines the sector’s contribution to the economy, the role of financial institutions and government initiatives, and the challenges related to infrastructure, technology, finance, and policy frameworks. The paper also explores emerging opportunities within the MSME landscape, including employment generation, industrial modernization, and export promotion. Finally, it offers practical suggestions to strengthen the sector through skill development, credit support, policy interventions, and women’s participation. The study concludes that despite several challenges, the MSME sector holds immense potential to accelerate India’s inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
