Title

IOT-Enabled Smart Biodegradable Waste Monitoring and Alert System

Abstract

This work presents a comprehensive Smart IoT-based system for monitoring biodegradable waste in real time to prevent overflowing bins, improve public hygiene, and reduce operational costs. The system integrates multiple sensors (load cell for weight, ultrasonic for fill-level, moisture and gas sensors) with a NodeMCU microcontroller to collect sensor data, which is transmitted to a cloud platform for storage and analysis. Threshold-based alerts (SMS/email/push) inform sanitation personnel when a bin reaches a predefined level. A user-friendly dashboard and mobile interface visualize real-time status and historical trends, enabling optimized collection schedules and route planning. Field testing demonstrates high sensor accuracy, low latency in alerts, and measurable operational efficiency gains, making the solution suitable for scalable smart-city deployments.
