Abstract
Due to their diverse therapeutic properties, Butterfly Pea (Clitoria ternatea) and Punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa) are important medicinal herbs that are widely used in Ayurveda and traditional medicine. Anthocyanins, flavonoids, alkaloids, and saponins are among the bioactive compounds in Clitoria ternatea that contribute to the plant's antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-diabetic, and skin-brightening properties. It has traditionally been used as a general tonic, to improve memory, treat skin conditions, respiratory ailments, and more. It looks like a twining herb with compound leaves, bright blue or white flowers, and roots that can fix nitrogen. Boerhavia diffusa has powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, anti-edema, and antiviral properties thanks to its abundance of flavonoids, phenolic compounds, alkaloids, saponins, and glycosides. Traditionally, it has been used to treat edema, urinary disorders, liver and kidney health, respiratory problems, and issues affecting women's health. The phytochemistry, pharmacological effects, and traditional uses of both herbs are highlighted in this review, demonstrating their potential in contemporary therapeutics such as skincare, metabolic regulation, inflammation management, and overall wellness.
