Title

ICT Tools as Catalysts for Innovation in Journalism and Public Relations Education in Rwanda: A Case Study of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies at Institut Catholique de Kabgayi (ICK) (2024-2025).

Abstract

This research examines the use of ICT tools as drivers of innovation in Rwanda's Public Relations and Journalism training, particularly at the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies, Institut Catholique de Kabgayi (ICK) for 2024–2025. It investigates how technologies such as e-learning software, editing software, live streaming, and content management software are integrated into the ICK's education system to make media training more applicable and of higher quality. Employing a descriptive research design and stratified random sampling of 67 respondents students and instructors the study measures the use of ICT in acquiring professional skills, interactivity, and digital competence. Despite remarkable advancements, the study recognizes persistent bottlenecks such as weak infrastructure, low technical skills, and digital access inequality, especially among rural communities. Proposed solutions include strategic ICT infrastructure investment, consistent teacher education, and curriculum reform to close the digital divide. Lastly, ICT tools offer an empowering chance at journalism and public relations education in Rwanda, and organizations like ICK are well-positioned to utilize these technologies to advance national development and a knowledge-based economy. Future research must examine deeper systemic variables such as national policy environments, access to digital channels, and long-term impacts on professional readiness in communication fields.
