Title

A Descriptive Study to Assess the Awareness and Perceived Side Effects of Ajinomoto Consumption among Street Food Consumers in Dayalbagh, Agra, Uttar Pradesh

Abstract

ABSTRACT Ajinomoto, also known as monosodium glutamate (MSG), is a widely used flavor enhancer in street food. Despite its popularity, many consumers are unaware of its potential side effects on health. This descriptive study aimed to assess the awareness and perceived side effects of Ajinomoto consumption among street food consumers in Dayalbagh, Agra, Uttar Pradesh. A sample of 50 respondents was selected through a convenient sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results revealed that 62% of respondents had low awareness regarding Ajinomoto, while 38% had moderate awareness. Commonly perceived side effects included headache, thirst, stomach discomfort, and burning sensation. The study concluded that there is a need for public health education to promote awareness about the safe use of food additives such as Ajinomoto.
