phytochemical study and isolation of phytoconstituents from cassia fistula
Abstract
Cassia fistula Linn., commonly known as the golden shower tree, is a medicinal plant widely used in traditional systems of medicine for its laxative, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. The present study focuses on the phytochemical investigation and isolation of major phytoconstituents from different parts of Cassia fistula, including pods, leaves, and bark. Preliminary phytochemical screening of various solvent extracts (petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, methanol, and aqueous) revealed the presence of secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, anthraquinones, tannins, saponins, terpenoids, glycosides, and phenolic compounds. Methanolic extracts showed a rich concentration of phenolics and flavonoids.
