The Public Distribution System (PDS) in India is a crucial component of the government’s efforts to ensure food security for vulnerable sections of society. This research examines the effectiveness of PDS in Mysore, focusing on its impact on the weaker sections, challenges faced in implementation, and possible improvements. The study delves into the accessibility, efficiency, and policy frameworks governing PDS in Mysore and evaluates its role in alleviating poverty and ensuring food security. Through a mixed-method approach, including surveys, interviews, and secondary data analysis, the research identifies key issues such as leakage, corruption, inclusion and exclusion errors, and poor infrastructure. Furthermore, the study explores the role of digitization, Aadhaar linkage, and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) in enhancing transparency and efficiency. Policy recommendations are provided to strengthen supply chain management, grievance redressal mechanisms, public awareness, and food diversification to make PDS more effective for the weaker sections. The findings aim to contribute to a more inclusive and robust PDS framework, ensuring that marginalized populations in Mysore receives essential food supplies efficiently and equitably.
