Title

“Weaving the Female identity: Voices of Womanhood in the Novels of Namita Gokhale”

Authors

Abstract

Namita Gokhale's writings explore the complexities of identity, gender, and selfhood in contemporary Indian society through a wide variety of female experiences. This article, "Weaving the Female Identity: Voices of Womanhood in the Novels of Namita Gokhale," examines the ways in which Gokhale depicts women striking a balance between tradition and modernity, quiet and articulation, and spirituality and desire. By closely examining novels like ‘Paro: Dreams of Passion’, ‘The Book of Shadows’, and ‘Priya: In Incredible Indyaa’, the study explores Gokhale's storytelling techniques that emphasize the female voice as a tool for self-realization and resistance. Drawing on feminist literary theory and postcolonial perspectives, the study highlights how Gokhale reclaims the feminine narrative space by combining myth, memory, and modern consciousness. This study culminates by making the case that Gokhale's female protagonists reflect a broader desire for autonomy and authenticity, reflecting the evolving discourse surrounding womanhood in Indian English fiction.
