Motia Talab, a perennial water body is located on the north-west of Bhopal city. It is one of the three cascading lakes that touches the Summer palace, Taj-ul-Masajid and Taj Complex in Bhopal. It is a man- made lake, constructed in the late 19th century A.D. The water spread area is 10.89 hectares. The age of the reservoir is 90 years. The reservoir water is used for many purposes including fishing activities. The aim of this study is to assess intrinsic and extrinsic factors of this lake. Parameters analyzed inlcude pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, total dissolved salts and hardness. The pH ranged from 7.81 - 8.2. Water temperature ranged from 25.2˚C to 31.1˚C. DO ranged from 7.8 mg/l to 9.4 mg/l. TDS ranged from 326 mg/l to 376 mg/l. Hardness ranged from 164 mg/l to 168 mg/l. From the study, it was observed that the intrinsic and extrinsic factors of Motia Talab sampled fall within the limits tolerable for optimum fish growth and as such is good for aquaculture.
