Title

From Algorithms to Accountability: Public Policy Challenges in the AI Era

Abstract

This research paper is exploring the idea of expansion of AI in our society and the upcoming challenges in this era. AI is basically a field of computer science whose goals is to generate programs which can ease up the tasks performed by the humans. The term AI can be used as “umbrella” as it is collection of related technologies which elevates the task of human by providing them simple mechanism. The assurance of AI is quite enticing for the government as well as private sector. As private sector has already been using AI for its competence and for generating better options for customers and shareholders. It gives assurance to public sector by being a breakthrough technology which will show efficiency and productivity in its work. AI has potential to uplift productivity of public services through intelligent governance system, automation and policy data analysis. However it asserts numerous setbacks and blind spots which make its usage quite challenging to be adopted by the government. The current usage of AI shows some issues which must be thought out and need to be carefully set apart, especially when it talks about governance. These issues involve difficulties with legal framework, Ethical issues, threats to cyber security, lack of transparency and accountability, regulatory gaps, algorithm bias and digital divide. These challenges can translate into bigger issues, so need to be settled beforehand. First government must understand these difficulties in the system clearly and formulate some public policies to make sure that the unfavorable impacts of AI could be alleviated, So that the adoption of AI in public sector could be beneficial and successful. By exploring all these challenges of AI, this paper attempts to enable public policy makers to ease up these challenges by mitigating them. This study also visualize the efficacy of AI in improving the government systematic performance by detecting fraud and public-private partnership. Moreover, it provides platforms which detects the loopholes of the system and enables it to rectify them before it harms the public at large. The main motive of this research is to show the changes which are brought about by AI in public administration and public sector. Also it outlines the challenges simultaneously which are cast by those upcoming changes of AI technology and errors of the AI generation
