Title

Sealing Cement Fractures Using Nano-Silica Gel Against C02 Flow

Abstract

ABSTRACT The sealing of cement fractures is of utmost importance in various industries, including oil and gas, construction. Traditional methods often fail to provide an effective and long-lasting solution. In recent years, the utilization of nanotechnology has emerged as a promising approach for sealing cement fractures. Nano-silica (NS) particles possess unique properties such as small particle size and high surface area, enabling them to penetrate deep into small crevices and narrow fracture widths. This solution exhibits excellent bonding capabilities, creating a strong and durable seal within the cement fracture. Several steps were taken to analyze sealing cement fracture using NS gel to prevent CO2 flow to the surface. The stability of NS gel was established after testing it with different pressures and temperatures. With 0.05-inch fracture width, the effect of using different NS concentrations was investigated. The sealing pressure at 15% was 300 psi and that went up to 900 psi at 25%. This research further analyzed the effects of the different NS concentrations on sealing cement fractures, but also investigating the effects of using different fracture widths.
