Title

A Comprehensive Study on Stereolithography (SLA) and Resin Materials in Additive Manufacturing

Abstract

Stereolithography (SLA) is one of the earliest and most influential additive manufacturing technologies, known for its exceptional precision, surface quality, and ability to create highly detailed geometries. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of SLA, beginning with its historical development and the fundamental working principles of photopolymerization. The construction and functioning of SLA machines are examined, highlighting the roles of the laser source, resin vat, and build platform. A detailed analysis of resin formulations is presented, covering photopolymer precursors, photoinitiators, absorbers, additives, and the behavior of filled resins used for ceramic and metal fabrication. The paper further discusses post-processing techniques required to achieve final part properties. Additionally, the study explores a wide range of SLA applications across industries such as medical and dental care, engineering, automotive, aerospace, jewelry, education, and manufacturing. Commercially available resin categories and their performance characteristics are also reviewed. Overall, the paper emphasizes the technological advancements, material innovations, and expanding industrial relevance of SLA in modern additive manufacturing.
