Title

Sleep Apnea and Alcohol Detection System for Vehicle Safety

Abstract

Road safety is a critical concern in modern transportation, with driver drowsiness and alcohol impairment being significant contributors to accidents. This paper presents the development of a low-cost, real-time Driver Safety System designed to detect both sleep apnea and alcohol consumption. The Sleep Apnea and Alcohol Detection System is designed to enhance road safety by monitoring a driver's physical state in real time. This project aims to detect two critical conditions: sleep apnea, which can cause dangerous drowsiness, and alcohol impairment, which significantly reduces reaction time and judgment. The system uses an Arduino Nano as the primary microcontroller, interfacing with an MQ3 alcohol sensor, IR sensor, relay motor, buzzer, MH-sensor-series flying fish, LED light, and motor. The system triggers immediate alerts and slows down the vehicle upon detecting either of these conditions. This paper outlines the design, implementation, and testing of the system, including component integration, software logic, data processing, and calibration. The proposed system is a low-cost, practical solution for improving road safety through real-time monitoring.
