This survey paper has identified the changing nature of sentiment analysis on YouTube comments, and it covers different studies that cover educational content, sentiment dynamics, and linguistic diversity in the studies. The paper was based on the extensive literature review and demonstrated the multifunctionality of YouTube comments as educational platforms, sentiment expression, and social platforms. There were prominent works that explored the educational quality of YouTube comments in the context of science communication, sentiment analysis of popular series comments, and sentiment categorization of Arabic comments. More sophisticated methods like machine learning, deep learning as well as transfer learning were used to improve the accuracy and scalability of sentiment analysis. Moreover, the paper indicated the importance of sentiment analysis in product review situations, its importance in consumer behavior information and influence of a purchasing decision. By conducting a thorough review of literature findings, this paper offered valuable information to researchers, practitioners, and policy makers by presenting the changing methods and use of sentiment analysis in the context of YouTube comments and how such information can be applied to learn more about the user gratifications and behaviors in online sequences.
