Entire world as a whole is concern with the problem of global warming and environment degradation. Emission of harmful gases into the air further contributing for problem of environment degradation. In over to control this low emission electric vehicle is best solution to save the environment and development of any country. India is among top most countries whose air quality is getting worst over a period of time. Electric vehicle is revolution in Indian automobile industry which replace regular petrol or diesel vehicles with electric vehicles. During the COVID 19 pandemic the demand for electric vehicles increased all over the country. Government of India is also encouraging people through different campaign to buy electric vehicle instead of petrol or diesel vehicles. This paper is an attempt to find out various challenges in development of electric vehicle market in India, level of awareness among the people about electric vehicles and initiative taken by government to boost the Indian automobile sector particular for electric vehicles.
