Abstract
In the higher education system, several educational strategies are included to uplift the skills of the learners. In an educational paradigm, project-based learning is an important pedagogical approach that integrates the teaching learning system with the practical forms of education. In the 21st century, with the progress of digital initiatives, the education system is required to move from conventional to a competency based technological integrated education system. One of the most preferable tools for modern student cantered education is project-based learning, that not only develops several skills of the students, but also generates the ability to solve real world problems. The main purpose of this review study is to identify differential strategies for implementation project-based learning in higher education, find out the effects of project-based learning on the students of higher education, and identify the impact of project-based learning on students’ academic outcomes in higher education. In this study the data was collected from several research papers, journals, theses on project-based learning between the time of 2000 to 2025. In the Indian educational paradigm, several strategies are included for the implementation of project-based learning in higher education such as technological integration, scaffolding, collaborative learning, continuous assessment, align with NEP 2020, and interdisciplinary curriculum. In the higher education system, effects of project-based learning on the students of higher education included boost critical thinking skills, develop subject understanding, boost motivation and confidence, enhance confidence and ownership, boost problem solving and collaborative skills, and increase academic outcomes. The study revealed that there are several impacts of project-based learning is identified such as enhanced core competencies, increased deeper understanding and application, holistic development, improved rational skills and become an independent worker, increased communication skills and creativity, and develop general attitude towards learning.
