Title

DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF PRACTICAL MODULE FOR STAR DELTA STARTER OF AN INDUCTION MOTOR

Abstract

The goal of this Research project is to design and build a workable module for an induction motor's star delta starter. The module is intended to provide students and technicians with hands-on learning experiences to help them understand the principles and functioning of star delta starts. The star delta starter consists of three magnetic contactors, an overload relay, a timer relay, and a circuit breaker. A motor must be connected in delta mode during a regular run to function as a starter. When an induction motor is started directly online, the motor winding draws a significant quantity of current. The initial high current can be achieved in 8-10 times the rating. So, before starting the motor, the high starting current must be controlled. As a result, in a star-connected system, line current equals phase current, and line voltage equals the root three times phase voltage. For these reasons, the motor is initially linked to the star system, which reduces the high beginning current. In a delta connection, the line voltage is equal to the phase voltage, and the line current is √3 of the phase current. In run mode, the motor connects in a delta arrangement, allowing the full voltage to be applied to the motor. The star delta starter is intended to reduce the voltage provided to the motor at startup, lowering the inrush current and torque. The starter consists of three magnetic contactors, a timer relay, and a thermal overload relay or circuit breaker. The components are arranged on a glass panel and suitably enclosed. The project's goal is to provide students and technicians with a comprehensive and interactive learning experience that teaches them how to design, build, and operate star delta starters for induction motors.
